Most of the weekends in January 2021 were not nice and we struggled to do the hikes we hoped on doing during this winter season. Pra Cornet snowshoe route no.8 was one of them. Regardless of the cloudy weather conditions we still set on our hike, hoping for the best. Fortunate or not, an African sand storm managed to travel all the way to Switzerland that day. We experienced something completely new on our adventure and managed to get some great photos! Saying this, the visibility was quite limited and we saw much less of the surrounding mountains than we normally would under a clear sky.
We came across a number of hikers and we can imagine it gets even busier on a sunny day. We also saw dogs and children around.
Located at ~1650m.a.s.l. Refugede Pra Cornet offers food and drinks, even a take away with outdoor seating during the lockdown closures. Les Mosses village also has plenty of other restaurants to choose from.

The whole trail was enjoyable and it ticks all the boxes - the path goes through a forest, bridges, next to a flowing stream, through open fields & mountain views. The start was easy with rolling hills, it got more challenging in the forest due to the ascent, and it got a little easier once we reached the top fields. We cut out the last small loup at the top of Pra Cornet from our hike, because the storm was too heavy for that side of the mountain. The way back was similar - the fields were easy to go through and the forest path was a little steeper. The signage was very well placed throughout the walk and the path was very clear to follow. There were a few possible shortcuts on this route.
