Gäggersteg Boardwalk in Gantrisch Nature Park, was build over the forest, which was destroyed by Storm Lothar in 1999. The intention of this platform was to allow a time-line view of the recovering nature and to appreciate it. At some sections, the platform is above the tree-line, expanding the views towards the mountains of the Nature Park. The walk quite busy with hikers, tourists, kids and dogs. We walked this trail in slightly cloudy conditions, however I would advise going there with full sun to be able to appreciate all the long distance views.
There are a number of picnic tables on this route. Slightly off from our trail, there are restaurants Schanze Beizli and Berghütte Selital.
The walk varies in covering throughout and there are a number of information boards. The trail starts through a flat ridge opening to all sides. Initially, ground covering varies between an exposed earth, popping out tree trunks and aligned timber planks. Just before the famous boardwalk, the route goes through a tarmac road. The boardwalk is a beautiful art piece in itself and its serpentine direction allows the viewers to admire the nature, distant mountains and the platform itself. There are a number of timber sculptures dispersed alongside of the boardwalk, making it a nice attraction for kids. On the way back, we took a scenic path at the mountains, which mainly followed a tarmac road and a wide forest way.
