This was our second hike, which we did in Switzerland and I think it is one of our favourite places. We got up early in the morning and we were very excited to set off on the road to Gantrisch Nature Park. This unspoiled park goes through 22 municipalities and 2 cantons. Looking back at this route a few years later, I am very eager to go back to Gantrisch Nature Park for more adventures. At the time, it was only Simon and myself hiking around Gantrisch and Nünenenflue mountains. I think that now, our son would really enjoy hiking there with us. We didn't come across many benches, but it was easy to find a spot on the surrounding grass and rocks. It is a very popular hiking area and we found many hikers, kids and dogs.

Almost immediately after setting off we started experiencing stunning views around us. This continued for the entire walk. We started following the road towards another parking area, after which we started ascending towards 2 beautiful mountain rocks. We noticed some people rock climbing on them. We followed a car-width gravel road, which later turned into a narrower rocky path. The surrounding views were very sharp - there were no large bushes or grass and all the hilly mountains were clearly visible. After we passed in-between Gantrisch and Nünenenflue summits, new views opened up towards the other side of the mountains. Soon, we came across a junction, where we decided to follow our loop hike. The other path lead to Gantrisch summit. Surely the views would have been magnificent, however the path seemed to follow a narrow ridge and we didn't feel safe enough to reach that summit. On the way back, we came across Gantrischseeli lake. Here we found many people having a rest or a picnic before reaching car lots.

Picnics seemed to be very popular on this hike! The splendid views also attracted us to sit on the side rocks of the path. Next to the lake, there is a beer house Birehütte and Obere Gantrischhütte (unfortunately those don't have websites). Closer to the parking, there is Untere Gantrischhütte.

More information about Gantrisch Nature Park can be found on their website here. The official Park website also features many themed paths here. Gantrischseeli lake is well described by Schweizersee website here. MySwitzerland website gives a general overview of Gantrisch Nature Park here.
