Such an enjoyable hike, we were very pleased we decided to do it while visiting Black Forest. It was definitely a challenging route and we would recommend wearing proper hiking boots protecting the ankles. St. Märgen offers a number of cafes and restaurants. There is also a picnic and a BBQ point not far from Zweribach waterfalls. There was even a self-service drinks cabinet with beer, brandy and non-alcoholic beverages! Until the picnic point, we didn't come across any hikers and we met a lot of people around Zweribach waterfalls.
We would recommend having a GPS guide with this route, as it could be difficult to find which pathway to follow at a few points. The route started through the meadows/fields on a tarmac road and changed into a gravel road as we entered the forest. After a while, we had to take a turn into a small forest way with a sign indicating a change of forest type and possible dangers of falling tree branches. Until this point, we managed to climb around 50m in elevation, which we didn't seem to feel. The wild forest we entered was quite magnificent in sight. We followed a narrow path with a sharp descent, steep sides and very tall trees. Everything looked wild and untouched. As we were getting closer to a small waterfall (not the destination) we came across many stones and tree roots on the way. There were a few sections with fallen trees, which we had to climb over. Soon, we came across a beautiful meadow made into a picnic and a BBQ stop. We had a great packed lunch experience here, looking at the views. Here, many other pathways joined together. The path to the waterfalls continued through bigger rocks and required a lot of attention for proper positioning of feet. Zweribach waterfall was just so beautiful, definitely worth the hike and the climb (on the way back)! The return part of the loop started with a very steep ascent. Lots of rocks and surrounding fauna was covered in beautiful, bright, green moss. Once we reached the top, the path was flat and later slightly inclined. After such a steep climb, we didn't appreciate the small ascent at the end of the hike.
