It is an easy, quite effortless walk. It is pleasant and not very long, great for kids and dogs. The ruins themselves are not the peak of the attraction, but the walk itself is. I passed a few hikers on this route. There were a few, but not many benches or opportunities to sit down.
Zweisimmen village offers plenty of nice restaurants and cafes to dine. We really enjoy visiting Gasthof Bären as they tend to have life music and very pleasant staff. Cable car cabins to nearby Rinderberg mountain are also open for private dining at specific dates. Prices and dates are available here.
The walk starts with a slow ascent through the city of Zweisimmen, among pretty chalets. The views start opening up quite fast. Once reaching the meadows, the single track path was fenced away from cow fields on both sides. I am not the bravest of people when it comes to encountering cows with horns. I took my time to pass by them, if they were close to the fence. This part of the walk is very pretty, with great views at mountains all around. Before reaching the main road, the route went into the forest and there were a few steps. The ruins are located shortly after crossing the road. The way back follows river Simme on a gravel walkway. This part of the walk ascents very gently, but it feels quite flat.
