Getting there: The road is a narrow mountain road from Achseten until Höchst. The parking at the top is also used by skiers. We would advise driving up the road in the morning as during the afternoons the traffic from the opposite direction may be difficult to pass through.
I think this was the nicest walk we did this winter season (Feb 2021). The whole walk is easy enough and is very panoramic, overlooking the valley and Adelboden at the turning point. An easy and lovely family walk. The snow on the path was prepared and no snowshoes were required; the second half of the walk (which is lower in elevation), already melted down. We came across a number of hikers.
Gasthaus Höchst Restaurant is located at the start/end of the hike.
We came across an honesty fridge with cheese during the first half of the hike (as per photo!).
There are a number of benches overlooking the views & it is also easy to find a picnic spot.
We followed the suggested direction of the loop, meaning that the main elevation gain was at the end of our hike. Most of the trail was very quiet & peaceful, where we would only hear the birds or cracking snow underneath us. The trail starts at the bottom of a ski slope and follows a small path through the village and beautiful chalets. Shortly after getting out into the meadows, the views open up towards the valley and the mountains for majority of the hike. Occasionally, we would also spot some mountain peaks from Kandersteg valley. At the turning point of the loop, Adelboden is very well visible. The main ascent goes through a forest. Hiking this path during a warm period (& after rain), meant that we found this section quite difficult to pass through due to the shadowed ice.
