One of the most famous lakes in Switzerland, it feels that almost everyone heard of Blausee. After seeing most beautiful photo shots of the lake by others and having heard about it from influencers, posters, advertisement - we finally decided we should visit this place.
It is a small place; in fact, a very tiny place. It is a tourist place, a tourist trap and a very easy place to access with not much movement. It is great if one wishes little effort to see a pretty view. Personally, we found Blausee slightly overrated with its beauty, realising that the shots portray the loveliness of sight, but don't reflect the active environment around - the noise, shouting, clinging cups, chatter, moving crowds.
It is pram friendly, but I would advise going without the pram and following the magical forest routes rather than the tarmac paths.
There are many picnic spots around the lake and there is a large playpark for kids. Blausee Hotel & Spa restaurant offers food and drinks.
There are plenty of paths around Blausee and they are all interesting and pretty. The forest is rather magical to walk through. There are a few bridges on the way to the lake and around the lake. There are plenty of lovely spots to stop for a picture. Our almost 2 year old son managed to walk almost the whole way by himself. The fish farm is quite unaccessible and does not offer any pretty sights - the main attraction is the lake! It is definitely worth going when the weather is sunny, as it is the sun rays which make the lake's colours change on the surface.
A visit to Blausee can be combined with 2 other close-by activities:
- Lift ride or Hike to Oeschinen Lake
- Walk around Gastern Valley
