St. Gallen, Grabs

Distance: 2 km round trip.

Walking time: 30 min round trip.

Access: Car or bus.

Parking: at Parkplatz Voralpsee

We visited Voralpsee just before our hike at higher altitudes. It is a lovely spot for a picnic! The walk itself takes around 10-15 min from the car park. There is a large grass area in front of the lake and many people were having a picnic at the same time as us. There are 2 picnic benches but considering how busy the lake was, one probably must get there rather early to reserve one of them. There was also a few BBQ spots.

The lake seemed very popular for a variety of people. There was a lot of kids and families, fishermen, groups of friends with drinks.

The pathway was a car-width gravel/dirt road, easy to follow with a pram. There a small and smooth decline to go the lake and an incline to go back to the carpark. The pathway is rather scenic and partially inside the forest.

It is possible to go for a walk around the lake. However, when we visited the area, the lake flooded a short section of the walk around it. It was a very small section, but unfortunately, it was not possible to walk around it with a pram (with a backpack it seemed doable).

There is a diner/snack bar Grillhuesli Voralpsee. The bar didn't offer a lot of sitting places and seemed very popular and busy. It is easy to buy a take away and have a picnic on the grass in front of the lake if there is no free tables.
