This walk can be done with many different variations and directions in summer and winter. I think, that the best variation is to walk downwards from Schönried towards Gstaad, as best views open up into this direction. If one wishes to walk more, I encourage walking towards Saanen. It is also possible to walk back directly to Schönried (directions of this hike are posted here). In winter, the path is prepared and the snow is compressed. This hiking trail is busy with hikers, kids and dog walkers.
It is possible to walk with a pram between Schönried and Gstaad, but not following this route. Pram friendly tarmac roads are easy to access next to this featured hike. The alternative path would be hilly, but without any steep ascents or descents. The path between Gstaad and Saanen is pram friendly with gravel ground covering.
On the path Schönried - Gstaad, there are 2 honesty self-service fridges with benches facing beautiful views. They tend to sell cheese snacks and drinks. Sometimes one can buy local cheeses and fondue. The second place also offers mulled wine or punch! There is also one honesty self-service fridge with local cheeses between Gstaad and Saanen. There are plenty of restaurants and cafés in Gstaad and a few in Saanen and Schönried. It is best to check in advance if they are open as many close during off-peak season.
There are a number of routes between Schönried and Gstaad. Both maps, which are included on this post start with slightly different routes, join together in the middle and they separate again accessing Gstaad at a different location. There is no huge difference between those routes - they are both scenic throughout and beautiful to walk. Both routes start on a tarmac road and later join into a path on the meadows. They pass through small bridges, cow fields and a few trees. Once reaching Gstaad, following hiking routes, there is quite a descent to get to the village city centre. Following the roads, the descent is much softer.
The hike from Schönried to Gstaad can join to other hiking routes such as:
