This is the most beautiful winter walk we have done so far around Switzerland. Wispile mountain top has such a pretty, long, rather flat ridge opening up to views on all sides. I would be very keen on doing this winter walk again. The hike is not our usual hike in a loop; but thanks to the surrounding views, it almost felt that we took a completely different route back. Gstaad tourist website marked this walk to be with moderate difficulty, however, we found it quite easy.
There is a giant fondue pot, which cannot be reserved but can be used by anyone for a picnic. It is situated close to where we turned back. Saanenland also offers a unique fondue backpack experience, where one gets a backpack with all fondue essentials for a hike. More information about it can be accessed here.
Our walk commenced with taking a cable car lift to top of Wispile ridge. The whole pathway was almost flat, without any big or sharp ascents or descents. We walked with our snowshoes (racquets), but it was easy enough to hike with winter shoes. As we got further from the cabin car station, we saw less skiers. The hiking path was very busy and yet it felt very quiet and peaceful. Once we finished the hike, we took the cable car back down
More information about this hike can be found on Gstaad Tourist website here. General winter activities can be viewed on the Gstaad Tourist interactive map here.
