A great place for free and effortless views! Many people associate Gstaad region with an expensive get-away. This scenic point offers an affordable way of seeing Saanenland from above. For those who enjoy more effort, it is also possible to hike Horneggli from Schönried or Gstaad.
It is easy to drive to the parking near lake Hornberg, however the road is a small mountain passage with multiple passing points. We parked next to the hotels Hornberg and Hornfluh, which also have restaurants with stunning views from their terraces. There was a goats farm next to one of the restaurants. Horneggli peak has a large BBQ point, but it also very easy to find a nice spot in the surrounding meadows for a picnic. There is also a Bar & Lounge at lake Hornberg.
The views are already very pretty when driving up the mountain road. During the first half of the hike towards Horneggli peak the path follows a gravel/dirt road. The other half of the way is a singular, thin track which goes between high vegetation and through a few rocks. There are large rocks at the top forming a 'flat' surface with a beautiful 360 degree panorama.
