This is my favourite, almost effortless, scenic, short walk in Saanenland. I have walked and run it during all seasons. In summer, it is a gravel pathway; while in winter the snow is prepared and compacted. The pathway has plenty of information boards about the villages and their history. It is a very easy walk with a pram, kids and dogs. It is a wonderful stroll, so it can get very busy with hikers or commuters to/from work.
There are not many restaurants in either Schönried or Saanenmöser. It is best to check in advance if they are open as many close during off-peak season. Our favourite dining place used to be at Hotel Kernen restaurant, where we really enjoyed their food and interior decor. Other restaurants in Schönried are in Ermitage,Da Corrado or La Nicchia. There is Belle Epoque hotel restaurant in Saanenmöser. On the pathway, one can find seasonally opened Moosbar. There are also a number of benches and it is easy to find a picnic spot. There is a drinkable water fountain in Saanenmöser train station / tourist office.
The trail starts with a nice play park for kids. The first half way towards and back from Saanenmöser follows a stream Choufliesbach. A number of times, I spotted kids trying to catch some fish into their nets from this stream. The views open up through different sides. There are trees on a side of the walk through different locations, which can be very nice during hot summer days. Later, the path goes near a golf course. It is possible to go back the same path or to take a train / bus back to Schönried.
