What a stunning winter hike! Before we decided to hike Rellerli summit in winter, we already explored the area on our skies. The views from the top are breathtaking. It is quite a high elevation gain so we did this hike in our snowshoes (racquets) for a better grip. It is a very popular path for hiking and sledging, so we stayed alert for anyone coming towards us at a higher speed.
The walk is on a prepared path with compacted snow. It began in the forest and followed the stream. The trees looked quite magical with all the snow on them. Some parts of the path in the shadow were a little icy. Soon after crossing the bridge, we got out of the forest and experienced beautiful views for the rest of the hike. There were a few points of where the ascent was very steep and I struggled to walk without the help of my hands. We felt quite exhausted and had a great feeling of achievement after getting to the top of Rellerli.
We hiked from Schönried to Rellerli summit and took the cabin lift down. It is possible to do it the other way around. Information on the opening of cable cars in the region can be accessed here.
There is a restaurant Berghaus Rellerli at Rellerli summit, with stunning views from the terrace. Cable car cabins to nearby Rinderberg mountain are also open for private dining at specific dates. Prices and dates are available here.
