A truly stunning hike, however I would have reservations to doing it with kids. We did this hike in late April and unfortunately, we could not finish it up to Wolap lake due to the high amounts of snow at higher altitudes. We didn't come across any benches, but it was easy to find a picnic spot with a view. It is also possible to buy some regional specialities at the local Boltig-Lebkuchen. We came across a few hikers, but no kids or dogs.
Once we walked out of the village, we started hiking between trees, up the steps and next to a stream with a series of pretty waterfalls. The air felt quite refreshing. After this, we followed a road, which was mainly through the meadows. This allowed us visibility towards the stunning mountains. Just before the steep climb, the pathway changed into a small track trail. We walked between rocks and gravel - we found it quite useful to have appropriate footwear for hiking. Initially, we spotted snow patches around the path and before we realised it, the whole route was covered in snow. We had managed to hike onto a nice viewpoint, but it seemed too dangerous to continue towards Wolap lake. On the way back, we encountered 2 snakes, which seemed to have recently woken up from their winter sleep. I have never met a real snake in the wild before, so I was quite scared when one of them started hissing at us. Thankfully, they were harmless. The descent through the rocks felt as steep as it felt when we were climbing up. We took our time when descending, as we started feeling the uneven ground in our knees. It was a very satisfying hike overall and we were very happy with the sights we managed to see, even that we didn't get to see Wolap lake.
