We have explored the views towards Gastlosen Prealps mountain range from the mountain tops in Saanenand; however, this side of Gastlosen seems even more beautiful. Just driving through Jaun pass is very pretty and it felt like one is unable to drive through it without stopping for a hike. We didn't come across many benches but there is a restaurant Buvette des Sattels just before the turning back point of the loop. It is also easy to find a spot at the meadows around the trail. We came across a few hikers, but no children or dogs.
We left our car at the parking of Jaun Waterfalls. Seeing this very attractive waterfall was a great start to our hike. At the beginning, the route follows a road, but we got slightly confused and started to follow a different trail. Thankfully we realised quite fast and we went back to the road. Once we got onto a single track trail (East side of the loop), we started climbing at a high gradient, it was quite a work-out! We walked through forests and meadows. The views started showing as soon as there were no trees around. The rock formations of the mountains are spectacular, and it is easy to spend a long time observing them. The loop back follows the road, which is mostly around meadows and faces mountain views. The descent is quite uniform and not as steep as the initial ascent.
It is possible to continue hiking following The Gastlosen Geological Path. La Gruyère tourist website offers more information about this path here. Jaun-Bergbahnen website also offers many hikes in this area here, illustrating them on a nice map.
